LG plans to launch a complete chrome OS based desktop. The new product, which is being compared in style to Apple’s all-in-one iMacs, will be shown at the Consumer Electronics Show next month. As with other Chrome-based computers, the Chromebase comes bundled with a variety of Google apps for writing e-mails and documents, reading e-books, sharing documents, editing videos or photos, and playing games, including Gmail, Drive, Search, Maps and click access to Google play. Chromebooks were an interesting concept. While not completely bankable solutions when it comes to heavy professional and personal use like normal laptops, they are intended for users who only use the internet for work and play. While there are apps that might work offline on the Chromebook, it could be inconvenient especially in India where the internet reliability is not very good. These hybridized products are meant to combine the stability of a webpage with the power of an app coded specifically for a given operating system. Last month Google added hands free search on Chrome with Chrome extension. A recent report by sharing analytics company Shareaholic revealed that Google Chrome is the current leader in browser compared to other browsers in the ecosystem. In a bid to capture the highly demanding tablet market, LG has taken wraps off its latest tablet G Pad 8.3. Apart from the above specifications, the device has few special features like QSlide, which lets you control up to three different apps in one window with no interruption, and KnockON, which turns the device on and off by tapping. The Chrome OS, which was announced in 2009, offers a lightweight, browser-based platform that allows devices to boot up almost immediately and emphasizes cloud-based applications and storage. The popularity of what LG is calling “the first-ever Chromebase “ may depend on its price. LG’s Chromebase marks the second major attempt at marketing a desktop Chrome machine.
